Love,

Randy California

This work is a memorial tribute to Randy. I met him and got his autograph at a concert in Pozo, California, in 1994. I think this is the only autograph I ever asked for in my life. I had listened to his music, and the music of the band Spirit, which he played in, over the years of my life. Then, in 1995, he disappeared off the coast of Hawaii after saving his son’s life when they were both caught in an undertow. When I told my husband what had happened, he commented that it was a noble way to die. It reminded me of Shakespeare’s quotation, “What a work of art is a man,” and I was inspired to do this tribute to Randy.
